I’m not going to hide my excitement when this assignment asked us to evaluate a blog from a variety of categories that weren’t, by definition, academic blogs. As an author for Monday’s post about academic blogs, I found myself dozing off looking at the different academic blog options (Note: I’m not heavily interested in politics or philosophy, so take no offense if you enjoyed these blogs). In Monday’s class, we discussed fundamentals of astrodynamics and applications the characteristics of academic blogs, in regards to content and design conventions. My small group discussed the dry voices, serious tones, the use of experts on certain topics, the heavy-text and the lack of visuals, and much more. What I found this week was the differences between academic blogs and other blogs. The purpose, voice, design, and multi-media approaches differ from blog to blog, sometimes making them more accessible and relevant to students our age. The different blog genres fundamentals of astrodynamics and applications were: arts and entertainment, journalistic, lifestyle, news and politics, and science and technology.
The entertainment blog I evaluated was Perez Hilton: Celebrity Juice, Not From Concentrate. Although I wouldn’t admit it to everyone, I find myself on Perez Hilton regularly not just because of his sense of humor, but because it does such a great job highlighting entertainment news on a day-to-day basis. Right off the bat, I have to say that the design of the website is very appealing to me. Despite the advertisements that always ordain the background of the site, the colors lure me in immediately. And, unlike the academic blogs we dealt with last week (particularly the ones that were incredibly text-heavy), Perez Hilton is full of visuals. What I like about Perez Hilton’s design is that the posts are updated frequently and the text is not heavier than it needs to be. An example of this is the Mason and Mommy Play In the Park post that was posted on January fundamentals of astrodynamics and applications 24, 2011 at 3:40 P.M. The post is short, stating:
Kourtney Kardashian took her son Mason to a park in Beverly fundamentals of astrodynamics and applications Hills yesterday for a little Mommy and Me time! Mason swung on a swing and scampered around fundamentals of astrodynamics and applications the park. He even got his Mom to ride the slide with him! (Hope she didn't lose her phone!) Adorbs! Check out more pics of their fun day out and about below! P.S. - Did you actually color-coordinate your outfits or did it just work out that way?
And five pictures are attached that better explain the post and give the reader a visual of Kourtney Kardashian and her son, Mason. Of course, fundamentals of astrodynamics and applications Perez Hilton fundamentals of astrodynamics and applications is known for his “doodling” fundamentals of astrodynamics and applications on the pictures. Here is this post's photo, fundamentals of astrodynamics and applications in case you haven't seen Perez Hilton before:
Over the years, the doodling has toned down a bit (it used to be a bit racier—but a few lawsuits changed this). His posts are short, to the point, and categorized by content, which allows the reader to click on hyperlinks to see related posts of the celebrity or the topic (ex: Kourtney Kardashian or celebrity babies). The voice of Perez Hilton is very interesting to me. It’s incredibly casual and when I’m reading it, I feel like I’m fundamentals of astrodynamics and applications talking to a personal friend of mine online. The posts are very visual and not very textual and the blog posts have to be approved by people who work at Perez Hilton to ensure that the tone remains fundamentals of astrodynamics and applications similar throughout the site.
His blog, Perezhilton.com (formerly PageSixSixSix.com ), is known for posts covering gossip items about musicians, actors, and celebrities . He is also known for posting tabloid photographs fundamentals of astrodynamics and applications over which he has added his own captions or "doodles." His blog has garnered negative fundamentals of astrodynamics and applications attention for its attitude, its active "outing " of alleged closeted celebrities and its role in the increasing coverage of celebrities in all forms of media.
Lastly, Perez Hilton really exemplifies multi-media. You can see visually that he uses a lot of photos and videos. In addition, there are many hyperlinks that readers can use to navigate themselves around the website. Perez Hilton allows readers to see the top-searched celebrities, the latest fundamentals of astrodynamics and applications news, and allows readers to “like” the blog on Facebook. Advertisements on the side of the website relate to fashion that celebrities are either wearing or that the readers of the website would probably be interested fundamentals of astrodynamics and applications in. Also, as we discussed/debated in class today, this is a website that allows all readers to comment. Typically the comments say things about the celebrity’s outfit, but sometimes they can be racier. For example, in this particular post about Kourtney Kardashian, fundamentals of astrodynamics and applications one of the comments fundamentals of astrodynamics and applications says: “Keep this kid away from Aunt Kim or she'll put him in a sex tape with Jennifer Garner's fundamentals of astrodynamics and applications little one. Baby porn is hot right now.”
This kind of comment is a personal attack on a celebrity and this could be why Perez Hilton is not loved amongst celebrities—the website allows people to speak their opinion and say whatever they w
